The Best Wireless (WiFi) HiFi Speakers – 2017

Wireless Hifi Speakers

Music technology is constantly advancing, creating new opportunities for us to listen to our favourite songs clearly and conveniently. Yet with every new advance, a new challenge is created. In particular, recent advances in Internet access and computer size have made it easier than ever to play your music from any location. But without the right equipment, you will not be able to hear these songs in their full quality.

HiFi speakers are critical for filtering out noise, distortions, and other flaws that would otherwise disrupt your music. By understanding how high fidelity technology works and investing in the best wireless HiFi speakers, you can achieve a pleasant listening experience in any environment.

What is HiFi and why is it important?

HiFi, or high fidelity, is a general term for quality audio equipment that can replay sounds at a high level of quality. To provide this quality, speakers must be able to read large compressed files and reproduce their sound with as few distortions as possible. While different music experts will have different specific definitions for HiFi, for our purposes in this article, we are looking at speakers capable of processing files that are at least 24 bits and 192 kHz, and can handle lossless compression such as FLAC. We are also only looking at speakers than can be configured in a standard 2 channel, Left – Right configuration.

Most recent advances have focused on storing larger files in more convenient ways and on preventing audio data loss. MP3 files, for example, compressed music into a small file size making it easy to transfer over the slower internet speeds of the past, and took up less space on early generation iPods. Unlike CD’s which featured uncompressed WAV files, however, MP3 files would lose a large portion of the data they stored, harming the quality of the music. More recently, FLAC files have become a new standard for audio compression. FLAC utilizes lossless compression so none of the data is lost, think of it somewhat like a ZIP file for audio. These files are larger than MP3’s as they hold more data, but still smaller than a fully uncompressed WAV.

As convenient as FLAC and high quality audio streaming services are, they are only valuable if you have quality speakers to play them on. If your wireless speakers are not HiFi compatible, you will be unable to play FLAC and other better-than-cd quality audio files.

Advantages of Wireless Speakers

Gone are the days of having to run wires through your walls and floors to have a great home audio setup. This new generation of speakers utilizes your home Wifi network to sync together, and stream music from your phone or computer. Many of these speakers will have the ability to stream from popular sources such as Tidal and Spotify. You can typically also stream any audio from your iPhone utilizing the wireless airplay technology. Here we are looking for speakers where you can utilize 2 of them to create a 2 channel, Left – Right setup to mimic traditional HiFi systems, but that by no means is the only configuration possible with these speakers.

  1. i love my wireless speakers, different than the ones shown here, but the same idea, works on wifi, etc. Never going to buy speakers that need a receiver and cables again!

  2. We sell a lot of these speakers and the best sound quality comes from the Klipsch Heritage series. The “Threes” and the “Sixes” sound amazing.
